Winter Snowstorm in the Santa Cruz Mountains

In February of 2018, a rare snow storm did more than just dust the Santa Cruz Mountains. This was a morning when being late to the office was excused. A winter wonderland that would lure anyone off schedule.

Photos by Julie Horner for the SLV Post near the junction of Bear Creek Road and Highway 35, Santa Cruz Mountains.

From the photographer:

“What to do when you’re totally late as usual to work – in this case my writing job at the Tesla factory in Fremont – and there’s snow on the ground where ordinarily there is nothing of the sort.

Just before Byington Winery there it was. I slowed. WOW!!! Ok. A handsome dusting. The higher up Bear Creek Road I went, the more snow! HOLY COW! Trees bending with the weight of it…crystalline, pristine, silent, breathtaking. I stopped to take a snap…several snaps…then at the overlook, a nearby resident mentioned there was even more snow on Hwy 35 north. Obviously I had to explore…

SO worth being late to work. A once in a lifetime experience.”
